Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is a two-time
Academy Award-, two-time Emmy-, four-time Golden Globe- and Screen
Actors Guild Award-winning American film actor, director,
voice-over artist, writer and film producer. Hanks worked in
television and family-friendly comedies before achieving notable
success as a dramatic actor in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. He
is also one of only three actors in the history of film to have
seven consecutive US$100 million blockbusters, the two other being
Tom Cruise and Will Smith. Hanks starred in the highly anticipated
film The Da Vinci Code, based on the bestselling novel by Dan
Brown. The film was released May 19, 2006 in the US and grossed
over USD$750 million worldwide. In Ken Burns's 2007 documentary
"The War", Hanks did voice work, reading excerpts from
WWII-era columns by Al McIntosh. In 2007, Hanks starred in Mike
Nichols' film Charlie Wilson's War in which he plays Democratic
Texas Congressman Charles Wilson (Texas politician). The film
opened on December 21, 2007 and in 2008 Hanks got a Golden Globe
