Elena Katina (born Елена Сергеевна Катина (Elena Sergeyevna Katina) on 4 October 1984 in Moscow, Russia) is a member of t.A.T.u..
In 1994 she joined a famous Russian children’s ensemble, “Avenue”. She was part of it for three years, and at age of 13 years old Lena was selected for “Neposedi”, the most popular and prestigious children’s chorus at the time.
Lena can speak Russian and some English. She likes to read, especially romance novels. Lena also likes to play the piano during her free time. In between promo tours and performances with t.A.T.u. she studies psychology at an unknown institution in Moscow.
t.A.T.u. soon became the most successful Russian group of all time, leaving a number of hits behind them, such as “All The Things She Said”, “Not Gonna Get Us” and “All About Us”. They also took part in Eurovision Song Contest 2003 and finished third with Ne Ver’, Ne Boysia. In 2004 the girls revealed that the lesbian relationship was just an image, and decided to leave Ivan Shapovalov. During the same time, Volkova got pregnant and started to have serious vocal problems. Since Volkova’s vocal-chord cyst operation, Katina has taken most of the lead roles on records and taken many of the higher parts.
In 2007, Lena, along with her bandmate, Yulia Volkova, starred in a film You and I, with Mischa Barton as the lead actor. The movie was directed by Roland Joffe and was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
Since the early childhood, her hobbies include artistic gymnastics, ballroom dancing, figure skating, swimming and horseback-riding. She is also a skilled pianist and also enjoys reading, especially romance novels. Katina stated in a 2006 TeleHit interview that she used to listen to artists such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd when she was younger.
