Meg Ryan is an American actress who specializes in romantic comedies, but has also worked in other film genres, Meg Ryan began in television commercials and the soap opera As The World Turns before getting roles in feature films like Top Gun (1986, starring Tom Cruise) and Innerspace (1987). In 1989 she hit it big as Billy Crystal's co-star of When Harry Met Sally. Throughout the 1990s she appeared in a variety of movies and was sometimes dubbed "America's sweetheart" for her roles in romantic comedies such as 1993's Sleepless in Seattle and 1998's You've Got Mail (both with Tom Hanks). Her other movies include Courage Under Fire (1996, with Denzel Washington), Proof of Life (2000, with Russell Crowe) Jane Campion's In the Cut (2003), Against the Ropes (2004), and In the Land of Women (2007).
