Quotes
It
is, I have to say. It’s really amazing. Kiefer
Sutherland really likes to set the tone with that. He sets the tone
really high with the work, and then also the speed. You can tell the way
the speed of the show is, that’s really the way the speed of the
shooting is too.
Its
tough when anyone leaves the show, but it was especially hard with
Carlos. He was more than just another actor. Carlos was a presence on
the set. He was very funny and sort of a group prankster. We had a party
for him, but looking around I got the feeling nobody-not even the
producers and writers who wrote him off-wanted to see him go.
Kiefer
is such a unique person and so talented and so gracious. I never
experienced a first day the way I did with him. Kiefer really sets the
tone with this company, and that is of really hard work. All the stuff
for him is about the work. That really sets the bar really high.
It’s
really fast. I mean, there’s definitely serious moments and heavy
moments that have to be worked through. And because of Kiefer we take
the time to do that, which is unusual that you get that on television.
And it just feels like it gets faster and faster, the speed keeps
picking up. It’s amazing that we’re shooting #21 right now.
That's
why I'm doing a comedy movie with Ben
Stiller ('Night at the Museum'). It's a huge comedy. I loved it,
working with Ben Stiller and Paul Rudd. Definitely keeping it light
during the hiatus is a great, great combination.
I mean,
Kiefer Sutherland was definitely a major element to it and Joel Surnow, the producer and creator of it was another one. But I loved the role. I mean, Audrey Raines is a smart, intelligent female but she’s vulnerable and sensitive, and she’s at really a strange time in her life. And also I liked her because she’s flawed.
Yeah.
I mean, we're going to have to see, we're just going to have to see how
it works out; what my shooting schedule is on The Nine, because
contractually, that is my commitment. I am allowed to go and do some
shows, and you know, there's a lot of like, fine print, but yes,
hopefully to keep the story alive, for Audrey and Jack, and then the
ideal world would be to then continue the story on the hiatus.
There’s
so many elements to it. I mean, Kiefer Sutherland was definitely a major

We
do enjoy each other's company, cast and crew, and that's really
important. And Carlos is definitely the prankster of the group. Kiefer
plays chess and he's teaching me darts.
My
eyes are still swollen from yesterday. It’s pretty emotional but
that’s also kind of a great [part of it]. We’re also doing it take
after take after take, but when you get to play opposite people like
Kiefer and Bill Devane, there’s such a high caliber of actors. It’s
also a great challenge to an actor to be doing that - and the writing is
so good.
Heartbreaking.
You get attached not only to the actors, but also to the characters. The
relationship between Edgar and Chloe was so moving and touching and
funny. Every character is such an integral part of '24,' so when someone
leaves, it's so sad.
I
definitely feel like Audrey is very different from last year. Last year,
she was very reactive, and this year is much more proactive. And she's
not going to stand for things she thinks will hurt the country, for
example, the relationship with Lynn. I think that comes from what
happened to her last year and that will keep continuing throughout the
season.
It's
funny, I don't think I read one other pilot [this year], because I
actually was going to stick with 24. And then Peter Roth from
Warner Bros came to me, and was so passionate about this, and so
passionate about me with the role of Kathryn, and I just respect Peter
Roth so much that I said, "Okay, I'll take a look at it." And
also [executive producer] Hank Steinberg, his show [Without a Trace],
I'm a big fan of. I was reading it in the trailer while I was doing Night
at the Museum in New York.
I
just don't look at the scripts that way. I look at it like, "what's
the journey for Audrey next?" [Coming up are] five episodes that
just have been so unbelievably intense for my character. There's so much
going on for her, I'm just so excited to be able to play that. I've also
been able to do some stuff with Peter Weller, and he's just such a great
actor.
So
it was like, I was doing 24, I was in New York doing Night at
the Museum, and I started reading this script, and I thought,
"Oh my God, this character is so fantastic!" All of these
characters are so interesting, and what an amazing concept, because
really, I think it's completely character driven. And watching it as an
audience member, I thought, "Wow, I care about all of these
different people." And what an unusual way to see the world and to
see these characters, and to be able to play this life before, this life
during, this life after, and that tension in going back and forth.
Heartbreaking.

Like
how do you… Once you become someone and you have a new experience, who
do you become? And especially after -- and I know this is a huge, huge
comparison, and I'm very aware that it's nothing in the same realm --
but 9/11. I was in New York, I was blocks away.
Well,
she had a gun and she shot off a couple rounds last year, but it wasn't
like the way Chloe got to do it Rambo style. There are definitely a
couple crazy scenes coming up. I don't know if they'd ever let her be
Jack Bauer-esque. I think it'd be fun, I don't think it would
necessarily be REAL. Everybody secretly wants to be Jack Bauer. But
that's what Kiefer does so well.
He's
an extraordinary man, incredibly intelligent. It was interesting having
him on our set, being such a huge fan, especially with his stance on
torture. It gave a weight and a reality to what we were doing.
