He often plays supporting roles as conflicted, insecure characters with a dark side. He starred in a successful films including U-Turn (1997), 8mm (1999), Gladiator (2000), Signs (2002), Buffalo Soldiers (2003), The Village (2004), Ladder 49 (2004), Hotel Rwanda (2004), and Walk the Line (2006).
