The trouble with Harry, as it were, is that he's alienated everyone in his life, from a string of wives and psychotherapists to all his living relatives, by rehashing their dirty little secrets in his fatuous, mean-spirited writing. A new height of self-loathing for introspective auteur Allen, who meditates upon a self-reflection theme based on Bergman's WILD STRAWBERRIES.

If These Walls Could Talk (1996)

Set in a single suburban house, this HBO production spans 40 years, comprising three stories that examine the evolution of a woman’s right to choose an abortion. The 1952 segment focuses on a war widow (Demi Moore) who finds herself pregnant after a brief encounter and desperately seeks an illegal abortion. Twenty years later, the house belongs to a married mother of four (Sissy Spacek) who is struggling with the discovery that she is pregnant again. Forced to choose between finishing her college education and starting the career that she put on hold for years or having another child, she also finds herself at odds with her hippie daughter. Set in 1996, the third segment focuses on an unwed college student (Ann Heche) living in the house who becomes pregnant by her married professor. The antichoice protesters surrounding the facility tragically impact her trip to a women’s clinic served by a devoted doctor (Cher). Directed by Nancy Savoca (DOGFIGHT, TRUE LOVE) and Cher, this film is a poignant examination of the evolution of the abortion debate, beginning with the tragedy of illegal back-alley abortions and ending with the violence so prevalent at women’s clinics today.

The strong bonds these young women forged back then endured despite the passing years and their different fates. Now they have the chance to reaffirm that powerful friendship on a joyous, special occasion.

The Scarlet Letter (1995)

Roland Joffי's adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's seminal novel tells the story of an intolerant Puritan community in the early days of American settlement. In the 1660s, Hester Prynne (Demi Moore) makes the voyage to the New World in order to find religious freedom and a new home for her and her husband, Roger (Robert Duvall). However, Hester proves to be too free-spirited and strong-willed for most of the conservative Massachusetts Bay colony members. She abandons the laws of the colony and sets up a home far from the town square, living by her own rules and setting the townspeople's morals on end. While waiting for her husband's arrival from England, she befriends the town pastor, Arthur Dimmesdale (Gary Oldman), a liberal-minded and passionate man who instantly strikes Hester's fancy. Although the married woman and pious pastor are strongly attracted to one another, the two refuse to give in to temptation--until Roger is reported dead in a violent Indian massacre. When the townfolk hear about the ensuing scandal, they force Hester to wear a shameful scarlet "A" (for adultery) on her clothing at all times--while living as a moral and social outcast.

Slowy, as she gets to know her neighbors, she begins to realize that she may have been wrong about her true love.

Mortal Thoughts (1991)

Demi Moore stars in this suspenseful, atmospheric thriller as Cynthia, a middle class New Jersey woman who gets involved in murder. Harvey Keitel plays a detective who grills Cynthia for a videotaped confession and the bulk of the movie progresses in a series of flashbacks that accompany Cynthia's testimony. Bruce Willis plays James Urbanski, the violent, drug-addict husband of Cynthia’s friend Joyce (Glenne Headly) who is murdered one fateful evening at a nearby Feast of San Gennarro festival. Lots of Jersey Italian-style yelling and screaming goes on in the aftermath, with goodfella Frank Vincent in the cast, along with Karen Shallo, Crystal Field, and John Pankow as Cynthia's sullen real estate agent husband. There’s also betrayals, threats, and a twist ending. Director Alan Rudolph captures the local New Jersey flavor beautifully and imbues the proceedings with depth via rich photography and use of slow motion and quick cuts. Willis is particulalry good, in a disturbing sort of way, in this, his first collaboration with future ex-wife Moore.

In the strange burg of Valkenvania, a monstrous small-town judge (Dan Aykroyd) hangs passersby for speeding and conducts his court from a mansion situated on a toxic dump site. When his bungling deputy (John Candy) brings in a couple of New York yuppies (Chevy Chase and Demi Moore), his twisted joy is gruesome to behold. The hapless duo try to flee -- only to run into several life-threatening pitfalls and traps in the process. Aykroyd plays several parts.

About Last Night (1986)

Danny (Rob Lowe) and Debbie (Demi Moore) are in love--on a strictly casual basis--in this sexy comedy. Based on David Mamet's stage play SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO, director Edward Zwick's ABOUT LAST NIGHT... is a funny, provocative, and often insightful look at young romance in the 1980s. At a neighborhood bar, Danny, a swinging single, meets Debbie, a bright young advertising executive who happens to be sleeping with her boss. Sparks fly, and the pair go home together to enjoy what they think is going to be a meaningless night of sex, preferring casual sex to commitment. Danny and Debbie both enjoy their own freedom, work, and friendships. Debbie relies on the support of her roommate, Joan (Elizabeth Perkins in her film debut), a cynical kindergarten teacher, while Danny is constantly exchanging dirty stories and work anecdotes with his coworker and best friend, Bernie (James Belushi). Although they desire to keep their independence, Danny and Debbie begin spending more and more time with each other and finally end up moving in together, quickly becoming domesticated in spite of their fears. However, their whirlwind romance gets the better of them and, although they have strong feelings for one another, they break up. Emotionally devastated, they both attempt to move on while realizing that they may have had something more important than their supposed freedom. This in-depth look at the difficulties of modern relationships is insightful and sexy, featuring palpable chemistry between the two seductive stars.

St. Elmo's Fire (1985)

Seven friends, fresh out of Georgetown University, cope with the fears and realities of adulthood while drinking at their favorite hangout, St. Elmo's. Alex (Judd Nelson) and Leslie (Ally Sheedy) are career-minded and heading towards marriage. Virginal Wendy (Mare Winningham) only has eyes for wild, would-be rocker Billy (Rob Lowe)--whose wife and child don't prevent him from trying to relive his college days. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) ponders the meaning of life and secretly desires Leslie, while his roommate Kirbo (Estevez) pursues an elusive older woman (Andie McDowell). Jules (Demi Moore) rounds out the group with her massive debts and cocaine problem. Joel Schumacher's twentysomething ensemble piece stands, for better or worse, as a revealing peek into the popular cinema--and values--of the 1980s. The film also represented a graduation of sorts, as Estevez, Sheedy, and Nelson portrayed high school students in John Hughes's THE BREAKFAST CLUB earlier in 1985.

No Small Affair (1984)

Director Jerry Schatzberg (SCARECROW, THE PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK) tries his hand at outright comedy with this lighthearted coming-of-age tale, featuring Demi Moore in one of her earliest roles. Jon Cryer is Charles Cummings, a 16-year-old dreamer whose life ambition is to become a photographer. He finds his world turned upside down when he meets--and immediately falls for--an older woman. Laura (Moore), a 23-year-old rock 'n' roll singer, wants nothing to more than to get a big break. Obsessively in love with her, Charles spends his life savings on an advertising campaign that puts her face atop every cab in San Francisco. Surprisingly, Charles's efforts pay off, and Laura receives attention from a popular record company. The only trouble for Charles is that Laura still refuses to see him in the glowing, romantic way that he wants to be seen. Just when he’s about to give up all hope, a lucky break changes things once and for all. Schatzberg’s tender comedy captures the confusion of adolescence in a sensitive, yet hysterical, way. In the lead role, Cryer displays his uncanny ability to be a character that the audience can relate to, making NO SMALL AFFAIR an enjoyable document of the pressure of impending adulthood.

Blame It on Rio (1984)

A much-planned two-family vacation to Rio begins with disaster as one husband, Victor (Joseph Bologna), deals with divorce papers while Matthew’s (Michael Caine) wife decides to vacation alone somewhere else instead, leaving the two men on vacation with only their charming and adventurous teenage daughters. Confronted by so much bare young skin, confused about the state of his marriage, and swept up in the moment, Matthew lets Victor’s daughter, Jennifer (Michelle Johnson), seduce him on the beach. But Jennifer’s constant declarations of love and lust make keeping the affair from Victor difficult and twists Matthew into guilty knots. The surprise appearance of Matthew’s wife (Valerie Harper, magnificent in a rage) reveals another hidden affair and unravels the romantic web crisscrossing between the families.

Determined to destroy the parasites, Dr. Dean and Patricia try to control the one inside him while they destroy the other before it gets too big and powerful to be stopped. Originally shown in 3-D, PARASITE is campy fun that features some genuine shocks as well as great effects by Stan Winston, who went on to do JURASSIC PARK.
