Sidewalks
of New York (2001)
Six New Yorkers have an
interrelated series of relationships. TV producer Tommy, who's
just broken up with his girlfriend, has a short relationship with
commitment-phobe Maria, who he meets in a video store, and also
hooks up with married real-estate agent Annie, who he meets while
apartment hunting. Annie is open to a relationship because her
husband, Griffin, is cheating on her, which she slowly comes to
realize through talking to her friend/co-worker who's gone through
the same thing. Griffin, a 39-year-old dentist, is cheating with
19-year-old waitress Ashley, who he picked up in a park; she
realizes she can do better when Ben, a hotel doorman and aspiring
musician, tries to pick her up, in a belated attempt to recover
from his divorce a year ago from schoolteacher Maria (the same
Maria from the video store). Most of these relationships seem
driven more by a desperate need to be in a relationship than
actual love.

kidnaps Nathan's daughter, forcing Nathan to attempt to get
Elisabeth to reveal a secret number which will ultimately lead
Patrick to the whereabouts of the precious gem that has eluded
him.

(Steven Weber) in a 1970's classroom struggles with his closeted
gay status. Finally in "Amos and Andy", a father (Edward
Asner) wrestles with his own emotional acceptance of a present day
wedding between his son (James Le Gros) and another man.

Falls (2000)
From Geoffrey Wright, the
Australian director of ROMPER STOMPER, comes CHERRY FALLS, a
horror flick that centers around a quiet Virginia town where a
psychotic serial slasher is hunting down virginal teenagers. The
solution: all the teenagers in town head out to a huge party where
they will have an orgy, lose their virginity, and save themselves.
Unfortunately, in the tradition of SCREAM, their plan is less than
flawless. CHERRY FALLS is a murderous movie that promises to
scare.

Trixie
(2000)
Director Alan Rudolph and producer
Robert Altman are up to their usual tricks with this quirky farce
starring Emily Watson. She plays Trixie Zurbo, a naive would-be
detective who takes a job at an upstate casino and finds herself
on the outside of a possible cover-up scheme and murder. She also
finds romance with Dex (Dermot Mulroney), the swaggering yacht
captain for shady local powerbroker W. "Red" Rafferty
(Will Patton). Also figuring into the case are Nathan Lane as a
besotted lounge singer, newcomer Brittany Murphy as an attractive
ex-girlfriend of Dex's, Lesley Ann Warren as Red's sexpot wife,
and, best of all, Nick Nolte in a perfectly hilarious turn as a
double-talking senator.

Girl,
Interrupted (1999)
Adapted from Kaysen's popular
memoir, GIRL, INTERRUPTED is handled with extreme sensitivity by
director James Mangold (HEAVY, COPLAND.) Winona Ryder stars as
Susana, a troubled teenager whose confused attempt at suicide
lands her in a mental hospital. Once there, she meets an odd
assortment of characters, including Lisa (Angelina Jolie), who at
first mesmerizes Susana with her uninhibited demeanor. The pair
form a tight bond, but that connection is threatened when Lisa
begins to spiral even further out of control. Ryder and Jolie's
intense performances are just one of many reasons to watch this
picture.

usual. This lushly photographed independent drama features strong,
emotional performances from Murphy and Allen.
