Hoobastank Biography

Dan Estrin, Doug Robb, and Markku Lappalainen first started plotting their musical careers back in 1994--influenced by diverse rock groups ranging from Phish to Guns N' Roses, the three began writing tunes together in their Southern California suburban hometown. 

By early 1995, they felt "tight" enough to start looking for a drummer, and took out an ad in the paper which was answered by Chris Hesse. A gig at Los Angeles hotspot the Roxy followed a few months later, and Hoobastank was officially born.

By 1998, after some time touring California and Arizona, the group had saved up enough cash to self-finance its first release, They Sure Don't Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To, which further expanded its fanbase throughout the world. 

Three years later, Hoobastank earned itself a major label deal, and unleashed its self-titled debut upon the world to critical and fan acclaim. The sophomore album Reason followed two years later, fueld by the breakneck-speed first single, "Out Of Control."
