Tautou's exact birthdate is unknown, with published reports giving it as 1978, but more recently as 1976.

She nearly never got the chance to play the wonderful Amélie Poulain, as director Jean-Pierre Jeunet was considering British actress Emily Watson for the role of Amélie.

Engaged to writer Lance Mazmanian.

Loves the movies of the Coen brothers, Woody Allen, Tim Burton and Spike Jonze. 

Was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in June 2004. Is now a member.

Was more than an hour late for audition for Venus Beauty Institute and burst out crying when she was told she couldn't audition; the director took pity on her and gave her a chance. When they called to tell her she won the role, she told the caller he must have the wrong number.
