Along with high school buddy Antwan Patton (a.k.a. Big Boi), Outkast has become a giant in the rap world, separating themselves from their hip-hop contemporaries by incorporating more than just thuggish lyrics and pumping beatsthey’ve added elements of funk, jazz and rock-n-roll into a genre desperate for change. André 3000 is a rapper and hip hop producer. He is half of the successful hip hop duo, OutKast, André has several aliases: "Dre" (his original moniker), "Possum Allawishes Jenkins", "Dookie", the reversed "Benjamin André" and "Johnny Vulture" Most of these appear in the Hey Ya music video, where he and his "clones" all have different names ("Johnny Vulture", "Dookie", "André (Ice Cold) 3000", and "Benjamin André", as well as the three in horse riding caps called "The Love Haters". 

OutKast is currently one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time (the others being The Fugees, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony) having sold 20 million copies of their six releases: four studio albums, a greatest hits release, and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a double album containing a solo album from each member of the duo. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is one of only three hip hop albums to go diamond, the other two being MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em and The Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death.

André has moved into the film world and has made appearances in The Shield, Be Cool, Revolver (2005), Scary Movie 4, and a co-starring role in Four Brothers.
