Alexis Bledel was spotted in a mall by a modeling agency when she was in high school which launched a career that took her all over the world. She worked as a catalog model and traveled to places like Milan, New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

With a distinctly natural and youthful earthy beauty that can alternate between ultra-glamour and wholesome field-frolicking nymph with the change of the breeze, former worldly model turned actress Alexis Bledel built a sturdy fan base with her role on television’s Gilmore Girls before falling for a young immortal in 2002′s Tuck Everlasting.

A native of Houston, TX, whose native tongue was Spanish, Bledel’s parents encouraged her to try community theater at the age of eight to overcome shyness. The aspiring actress would subsequently appear in local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz before being scouted at a local mall and whisked into life on the catwalks. Traveling through Europe and Japan before graduating from Houston’s Saint Agnes Academy, Bledel would also graduate from the Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting before enrolling as a film major at N.Y.U.

Though it may come as no surprise to many that the ethereal young actress was voted one of People magazine’s Hottest Stars Under 25 in 2002, the firmly grounded actress appeared to have a promising career in store for her whether it be on the pages of Vogue or under the bright lights of Tinseltown.

Fans with a quick eye could also catch a brief glimpse of Bledel’s film debut, as an uncredited extra, in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore (1998).

The first acting role Alexis ever went out for, she landed. It was the role of Rory Gilmore on The WB’s Gilmore Girls. For the past five seasons, Alexis has continued with Gilmore Girls, but hasn’t limited herself to TV. In 2002, Alexis landed the role of Winnie Foster in the Disney flick, Tuck Everlasting. In 2005 Alexis Bledel had a role in Frank Miller’s Sin City and she also takes on the part of Lena in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – due out June 1, 2005.

Alexis Bledel loves to play the piano. In between scenes on the Gilmore Girls, she heads to her trailer and practices on a keyboard. She also enjoys photography, writing, reading, watching movies and hanging with her family.

In 2006, Bledel starred in I’m Reed Fish as Reed Fish’s fiance. Bledel reprised her role of Lena Kaligaris from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in the film’s sequel, released in August 2008. Bledel next starred in Post Grad, which opened on August 21, 2009, alongside Jane Lynch, Michael Keaton, and Carol Burnett.

In 2009, Bledel starred opposite Scott Porter in the film The Good Guy, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival April 26, 2009. In this, Porter plays a Wall Street businessman whose life begins to fall apart when he helps out a new salesman. Bledel played Beth, Porter’s girlfriend. Anna Chlumsky of My Girl plays her friend. She was also a guest star on the two-hour series finale of ER, playing new intern Dr. Julia Wise. In May 2009, Bledel returned to the modeling world, signing a contract with the modeling division of IMG.

In 2010, Bledel appeared in the historical drama The Conspirator directed by Robert Redford. She plays the wife of Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy), the lawyer who defended Mary Surratt, the first woman to be hanged in the United States, played by Robin Wright. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Also in 2010, Bledel completed work as the lead actress in the independent Canadian film The Kate Logan Affair. The film is due to be presented at Montreal’s Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, between October 13 and 24th.
